Panel: Gaslight Like You Mean It

Panel: Gaslight Like You Mean It: Explaining Price-Hiking Tariffs To Your Constituents

Tariffs are jacking up the price of nearly everything, costing families in your district more than $1,000 a year. We know that’s a tough sell on the campaign trail. We also know that you would rather prices keep going up than dare go against Trump.

Join us for a panel on how to explain that tariffs are working (no matter what the evidence says), and why you’ll keep defending them no matter what it costs your constituents. This panel is especially important for candidates in major agricultural states. Come learn how to meet a soybean farmer face-to-face and explain how the tariffs that are squeezing them dry, shrinking their export markets, and exposing them to retaliatory tariffs are actually a thing they should be grateful for.

Panelists

Scott Bessent:
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent admitted that tariffs “could” cause prices to go up as a “one-time price adjustment”, but dismissed concerns from Americans who were stuck paying those prices. And when he was called out for hurting American farmers, he lied and claimed he was a soybean farmer (he’s not).

Ashley Hinson:

Iowa Senate candidate Ashley Hinson defended Trump’s tariffs, voted to protect them, and declared that the “tariffs are working” — even as they drove up food costs and drove down Iowa farmers’ bottom line.

Cindy Hyde-Smith:

Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith defended Trump’s tariffs and insisted that they were being used “wisely” even as they caused higher food costs for Mississippi families, higher prices for Mississippi businesses, and higher input costs for Mississippi farmers.

Can’t make it? Follow some of these great examples:

NC-03 Greg Murphy: Admit that it’s “not easy,” but tell voters they need to focus on macroeconomics — “We have to take some really tough medicine.”

WI-08 Tony Wied: Tell voters that there will be “short-term pain” and then repeatedly vote for those tariffs.

TX-24 Beth Van Duyne: Back the tariffs but then go on national TV and admit that those same tariffs would be “painful” for the American people.
